Global Summit on Human Rights in the Digital Age

RightsCon Toronto will take place from Wednesday, May 16 to Friday, May 18 2018, at the Beanfield Centre at Exhibition Place, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Access Now is thrilled to be bringing the global RightsCon community to Canada’s largest city for RightsCon Toronto. Not only is Toronto a dynamic tech hub, it’s also one of the world’s most diverse cities.

As a place that strives for values of diversity and inclusion, Canada stands in stark contrast with recent global trends of isolationism and exclusion. By moving RightsCon to Toronto, we’re committing to creating a platform for the most pressing tech challenges to be tackled — a platform with respect for diversity, inclusion, and human rights at its foundation.

Of course, digital rights in Canada are also under threat, which is why we’ll be partnering with local organizations to showcase the great challenges and discussions facing Canadians. By bringing together this globally diverse community together, we’ll learn from each other, forge partnerships, and create strategies that solve some of the most pressing issues impacting people around the world. It’s this community that makes RightsCon one of the world’s leading summits on technology and human rights.

RightsCon Toronto 2018 will be our seventh event, with projections of 2,000+ active participants. The program will tackle many issues of critical importance: innovation policy in Canada, freedom of expression, protection of global journalism, fostering internet connectivity, gender diversity and digital inclusion, encryption and cybersecurity, countering violent extremism and hate online, privacy and data protection, and the leading discussions on internet, telecommunications, and digital policies impacting people worldwide.
